Star Trek: Discovery - Away Mission Comes to Virtual Reality
Inspired by Star Trek's iconic Holodeck, where environments are
simulated in virtual reality, real-time motion capture cameras and VR technologies create a new, immersive social experience that brings the Star Trek universe to life.
The Star Trek: Discovery - Away Mission by Sandbox VR is a free-roam VR experience allowing players to become a U.S.S.
Discovery crew member on an away team mission. Guided by fan favorite character Sylvia Tilly (with Mary Wiseman reprising her role from the show), teams conduct tricorder scans, fire phasers,
transport to strange alien planets, and seek out new civilizations.
"It's a full body experience that completely transforms you, where you become the experience itself," explains CEO and Founder, Steve Zhao.
Star Trek: Discovery - Away Mission has officially launched at Sandbox VR's Hong Kong, San Francisco Bay Area, and Los Angeles locations. The company is planning a rollout across the U.S. with
locations coming soon to New York, Austin, San Diego, and Chicago. An additional 16 locations planned by the end of 2020.
Star Trek: Discovery isn't the only Sandbox VR adventure. It joins several other immersive, free-roam experiences, currently in Los Angeles and San Francisco as well as Vancouver, and several
cities in Asia.
Note: You will need to be able to walk unassisted for 30 minutes continuously with full use of both hands. Unfortunately this experience is not currently wheelchair friendly.
