Explore the world's tallest building -- Burj Khalifa

With its observation deck and the Dubai Fountain's sound and light show this marvel offers top to bottom fun.

Rising just under 2723 feet (830 metres), the Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, and the futurist design created by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill is a major part of the Dubai cityscape.

The observation deck offers a 360-degree views of the city, desert, and ocean. But even as you leave, Burj Khalifa offers a parting gift -- the Dubai Fountain, located at the base of the Burj Khalifa. It is said to have the world's largest choreographed fountain system, with a sound-and-light show jets shooting as high as 500 feet (150 metres) in the air.

Learn about Coffee at the Coffee Museum

In the Al Fahidi Historical District, this museum tells the story of one of the world's favorite beverages. Believed to have been first brewed in Ethiopia, coffee has spread around the world, and likely to your breakfast table.

The museum includes exhibits on different roasting and brewing styles, historical coffee-related items and even coffee accessories for purchase. There are books and documentaries, and, of course, a coffee bar.

The Jumeirah Mosque

The only mosque in the city open to non-Muslims the Jumeirah Mosque was built entirely from white stone with towering twin minarets framing a large central dome. When it's lit up at dusk, the intricate artistry delight visitors.

The best way to visit is through a tour hosted by the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding. Tours operate 6 days a week Saturday through Thursday. It is suggested you arrive by 9:45 am.

The Centre also offers heritage tours of Al Fahidi Historical neighborhood combined with Emirati breakfast, lunch, or dinner. These require reservations through the Centre.

Flowers as Art at the Dubai Miracle Garden

Beautifully designed using literally millions of flowers to form a landscape of hearts, stars, igloos, pyramids and more, the Dubai Miracle Garden is rebuilt each season. Currently, Emirates Airline has teamed up with Dubai Miracle Garden to construct the world's largest floral installation -- a life-size version of the Emirates A380, covered in more than 500,000 fresh flowers and living plants.

Visitors can also be amazed by the Butterfly Garden with nine domes filled with different colors, sizes and species of butterflies. Between the domes explore the butterfly museum and beautiful butterfly flower park.

Shopping Malls

Dubai does everything a bit grander so even its shopping malls have far more than stores. Dubai Mall hosts the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo. Their signature experience is there Shark Encounter with no diving necessary. The Shark Scooter is a personal miniature submarine which takes visitors deep below the surface of the aquarium in the self-contained "scooter". Or, take a glass-bottom boat ride above the world's largest suspended tank.

If you'd rather experience your water as snow, Mall of the Emirates offers skiing complete with a ski school. The real delight is likely to be their Penguin Encounter enabling visitors to get up close and personal with their adorable Gentoo and King penguins. Next, you can try the Snow Bullet Experience billed as the world's first indoor sub-zero Zip Line.
