Offbeat Las Vegas: Neon Museum's Boneyard, Liberace Museum and Tribute Show, and Fremont Street

It took about 30 nanoseconds for me to conclude that I never have seen, and never will see, another city like Las Vegas. It's Times Square, NYC on steroids. Everything is huge, and everything glows, moves, beckons -- come here, you’ll have a great time.

Fremont Street Experience

Once upon a time there was Fremont Street, before the glittering megahotels of The Strip. Fremont didn't glitter as much as it glowed -- pure neon. Bypassed by tourists for several years, Fremont Street has been reborn, and its still got it. The Neonopolis is the 250,000-square-foot shopping, dining and entertainment complex forming the east end of FSE.

From the Golden Nugget to Binion's the classics are here. And so are the historic neon signs. The Neon Museum has installed some of its restored and much loved classics along Fremont Street.

Photo by Neala It's not just the tourists who stroll along the covered pedestrian walkway, the locals come here for entertainment as well. It's the affordable part of Las Vegas with inexpensive buffets, and free stage entertainment set up throughout the area. Several times a night the music permeates the air and the ceiling becomes a light show LED canvas. We were there for the tribute to Queen. Their hit songs surrounded the transfixed crowd (I confess to singing along with the music) while the sky formed a colorful collage of images. Try doing that on The Strip.
